The US Yacht Ensign is the alternative to the traditional 50-star national flag and is traditionally carried onboard pleasure boats. It was designed by the officers of the New York Yacht Club and authorized as an Act of Congress in 1848. Today, it remains a legal national flag for boats and is widely used in US waters.
